Activate Sequence and Manage Your Account

Sign in from the app

Sequence supports signing in with Apple, Google, or an email magic link. Choose the method in the sign-in window and complete the prompt. If you use email, open the link sent to that address to return to Sequence; you do not need a separate password. A passkey sign-in option is also available for accounts with a registered passkey.

Activation

In Direct and App Store builds, Sequence checks whether your account has an active licence or trial. From there, you can start a trial, buy Sequence, restore an existing purchase, or continue into the app.

Direct-download builds use your Sequence licence. App Store builds can show the available subscription or lifetime-purchase options and restore purchases made with the current Apple Account.

The Setapp app requires a Sequence identity through email, Apple, or Google sign-in for account and model services. Genuine native Setapp SDK subscription state governs local workspace admission. Signing in to Sequence alone does not grant Setapp access. Setapp manages payments and permitted devices; there is no additional Sequence purchase requirement, independent Sequence device allowance, or Sequence offline-lease lockout for that local access. Protected online downloads still require backend membership verification and device proof. Optional Setapp account linking on other distribution channels is separate and does not replace native verification in the Setapp app.

Open Settings → Account → Plan & Billing to check the current plan. App Store subscribers can open subscription management there; direct accounts can see available invoices. Setapp builds show Setapp management when applicable. Purchase and restore options depend on the build you installed.

Security and two-factor authentication

If your account has two-factor authentication enabled, enter the code from your authenticator app when Sequence asks for it. You can use an account recovery code instead when you cannot access the authenticator.

Open Settings → Account → Security to review account security and named passkeys. You can remove a passkey you no longer recognize or use. Account security changes may require a fresh sign-in.

The Touch ID app-lock control is also in Settings → Account. It requests another unlock after you hide or minimize Sequence or relaunch the app. If biometrics are unavailable, Sequence uses the Mac's device-owner authentication. This is separate from account two-factor authentication and does not encrypt your source media.

Activated devices

In Direct and App Store builds, open Settings → Account → Devices to see the Macs activated on your account and remove an old device. The current Mac is marked Current Device and cannot remove itself from this list. Sign out on that Mac instead. Setapp devices and access are governed by your Setapp membership, not this Sequence device allowance.

If you reach the device limit during activation, remove a device you no longer use and try again.

What a licence unlocks

A valid licence unlocks the complete workflow: on-device transcription, BS.1770-4 audio normalization, global search, spoken-video cleanup, finished media export, and Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve handoff.

Offline access

In Direct and App Store builds, activated devices can keep working offline while their saved offline access remains valid, normally for up to a week after a successful licence check. Reconnect before it expires so Sequence can validate access again. Validation normally happens automatically; if access cannot be renewed, follow the sign-in or purchase prompt. Offline access does not extend an expired trial. For the Setapp app, local and offline access are governed by the native Setapp SDK subscription state and Setapp's terms, not a Sequence seat count or Sequence offline-lease lockout. This does not remove backend verification and device-proof requirements for protected online downloads.

Trials and expired access

For Direct builds, download the app, sign in, and follow the prompt to start the free trial. Check the Pricing page for the current trial length. When the trial ends, buy Sequence or choose an App Store plan to keep using those builds. Setapp membership and billing are managed by Setapp; a Sequence purchase does not replace Setapp verification.

Circle early access

Where available, Settings → Account → Circle lets you join or leave the optional Sequence Circle early-access programme. Review Terms before joining. Error reporting and technical diagnostics are required in Circle early-access builds while enrolled; leave Circle from this screen if you no longer want that requirement. The Setapp app is an exception: diagnostics require a prior answered, affirmative consent choice, and inherited Circle membership cannot enable diagnostics, lock the choice, or override a refusal. Joining or leaving Circle from Setapp context preserves that choice. Outside the Setapp context, enrolled accounts can use Open TestFlight when the build offers it.

In the Setapp app, analytics and diagnostics consent is specific to each installation. Loading account preferences does not enable either without that installation's own explicit answered, affirmative choice.

The Setapp account context does not offer Circle invitations or TestFlight promotion. If you already belong to Circle, you can leave without changing your Setapp diagnostics choice.

Signing out

Sign out from Settings → Account. Sequence clears local sign-in and offline-access credentials immediately and attempts to revoke the session and device activation with the server. Your local library data is not deleted. You will need to sign in and regain valid access to continue using it.
