Metadata and Recording Setup

Open Metadata

Open the Metadata inspector from the workspace to review the active variant or programme. Choose Video, Audio, Variant, or Keywords. Audio-only media omits the Video and Variant sections.

Inspect video and audio

Video and Audio show available source paths, dimensions, frame rate, codecs, channels, sample rate, bitrate, and stream details. Recording files can contain several streams, so read the physical track ID or stream index alongside each heading rather than treating that number as a count of sources.

Prepared media is identified separately from the original recording. Remuxed and converted files, normalized audio, and linked external audio have their own paths and available management actions. Relink a missing file or restore permission rather than importing it as another project. Delete and remove actions have different consequences; read the confirmation before changing the active audio source or removing a prepared file.

Choose recording tracks

A recording with several embedded streams is different from a Sequence Package: the recording supplies media tracks, while an .sqbundle transfers an editable Sequence project.

1. Open the variant you want to configure.
2. In Metadata → Video or Audio, review each stream's Role. Video roles include Camera, Screen, and Disabled; audio roles include Microphone, System Audio, Remote Guest, Mixed Audio, and Disabled. Choose the role that matches the content rather than relying on the track number.
3. If Metadata → Variant → Package Setup appears, choose Display Video, Transcription Audio, and Playback Audio from the available tracks.
4. Click Confirm Tracks. Disabled streams are not offered as setup choices.

You can change a saved choice later with Use for Display on a video stream, or Use for Transcription and Use for Playback on an audio stream. These controls appear when there is more than one stream of the relevant type. Changing transcription audio prompts for confirmation when words already exist; it does not regenerate the transcript, which may now be stale.

Attached external or normalized audio takes precedence over embedded audio. Its presence can lock an embedded stream's Role control; remove the attached audio only if you intend to return to the recording's own tracks.

If To Check appears in Variant, follow Review Roles, View Progress, or the relink action offered for the issue. For a Multi-Cam edit, Variant also exposes each angle's Role, Speaker, and Selected Variant.

Mix multiple audio tracks

For recordings with several audio streams, open Metadata → Audio → Audio Mix.

• Choose One Stream, Selected Mix, or Isolated Tracks under Transcription. One Stream uses one source; Selected Mix recognizes speech from the selected mix; Isolated Tracks recognizes selected tracks separately before combining the words.
• Review each component's Enabled, Mute, Solo, Gain, Pan, and Channels settings. Channel choices include Automatic, Channel 1, and, where available, Channel 2 or Swap Left / Right.
• Set the component Role, whether it participates in Normalize, and whether to Transcribe it. At least one transcription component must remain selected.
• Use Timing Nudge for a small track-alignment correction, up to two seconds in either direction. Loudness Target ranges from -24 to -9 LUFS.

Mute, solo, gain, routing, and normalization are saved mix decisions used by playback, transcription, and export, not merely headphone-monitor controls. Audition the mix before starting transcription or output. See Normalize Audio for full-source loudness processing and external-audio synchronization.

When isolated transcription reports conflicts, Isolated Transcription Review shows duplicate speech removed and overlapping speakers retained. Use Review overlap to listen at the flagged point. Separate-track transcription is not source separation: it needs recordings that already contain separate audio tracks.

Compose multiple video streams

For a recording with several video streams, use Metadata → Variant → Video Composition:

1. Choose Primary and Secondary streams.
2. Set Layout to Screen Only, Camera Only, Picture-in-Picture, or Split Screen.
3. Adjust Primary Fit, Secondary Fit, and their Crop controls as needed. Sync Offset shifts the secondary picture relative to the primary.
4. For Picture-in-Picture, choose Corner, Size, and Padding. For Split Screen, choose Direction and Proportion.
5. If the streams differ, decide the Frame Rates and Dynamic Range policies. Decide Later leaves the composition needing a decision before rendering.

This combines streams inside one recording. For separate camera files and passage-by-passage angle changes, use Multi-Cam Editing. Use Composition Crop to reframe the overall picture rather than an individual stream.

Keywords

Use Keywords to review keyword summaries associated with the edit. In a Multi-Cam folder, camera variants can show the programme’s keyword summaries rather than a separate set for each camera.

Use Re-Analyze to regenerate keyword suggestions after transcript changes. Wait for the loading state to finish before starting another analysis. The summary is read-only; add, edit, or delete a clip's own keyword labels from the transcript or Clips controls instead.
