Open Sequence → Settings or press ⌘,.

Command Center

Press ⌘K to open Command Center, the command palette for finding and running a feature or app action. Search for the action you need, then select it to run it.

Command Center is separate from Settings → Keyboard, where you customize shortcut bindings.

Keyboard shortcuts

Open Settings → Keyboard to see the current bindings. Click the pencil beside an editable action, press the new combination, then click the checkmark to save. Click the cross to cancel. Sequence rejects conflicting or reserved combinations; some standard bindings cannot be reassigned. Reset to Defaults restores the whole shortcut list.

Useful defaults include:

With the video pane focused, use J / K / L for reverse, pause, and forward shuttle; , / . to step frames; M to add a marker; C to toggle captions; ⌥L to toggle looping; and ⌘⇧F to capture a frame. These pane-specific shortcuts do not apply while you are typing in a text field.

Transcript text size is available from Bigger Text (⌘+), Smaller Text (⌘-), and Actual Size (⌘0). When the timeline has focus, these keys instead zoom the timeline in, out, or to fit.

General

Choose the system, light, or dark theme; select the app language; choose whether to reopen the recent project on launch; and enable completion notifications. Restart Sequence after changing the app language. Notifications also depend on macOS notification permissions.

Library backup

Where supported by your installed build, Settings → General → iCloud Backup offers encrypted database backup, Back Up Now, and Restore…. Sign in to iCloud and finish or cancel active jobs first. Media files are not included: keep a separate backup of your source media.

Restore replaces this Mac's database rather than merging libraries. Sequence keeps a local previous-database safety copy for seven days and offers Revert while that copy is available. Relaunch after a restore or revert. This is not a way to convert a library for an older app.

Turning the backup switch off stops future backups on this Mac without deleting the local library or media. The backup row's trash button separately offers Delete Backup: it deletes the stored iCloud backup and turns off future backups on this Mac, but leaves local projects and source files in place. Review the backup date and confirmation before deleting it.

Cache and storage

Settings → General → File Locations reveals the active database and cache locations in Finder. Use these links instead of assuming a fixed folder, especially after a library upgrade.

Use the cache row's trash button to request cache clearing, then confirm. Cached intermediates may need to be regenerated afterward. Clearing the cache is not the same as resetting the database; do not delete library files to troubleshoot a playback issue.

Privacy

Find privacy controls under Settings → Account → Privacy. Product analytics, error reporting, and product updates and tips have separate controls. Newsletter changes may require email confirmation. If you joined Sequence Circle, its diagnostics requirements apply; leave Circle from Account settings before turning off diagnostics required by that programme.

These choices are separate from granting an assistant access through Automation.

Settings → Account also offers a Touch ID app-lock setting. After enabling it, hiding Sequence, minimizing its window, or relaunching requires another unlock. Sequence uses device-owner authentication when biometric authentication is unavailable. This protects access to the app; it is not a media-file encryption feature.

On-device transcription and optional iCloud backup are separate choices: enabling backup sends the encrypted library database to your iCloud account, not your source recordings. Speaker voice memory is another local setting; turning analytics off does not erase saved voice profiles. See Speaker detection for removing them.

Transcription and models

Use Settings → Transcription to download or delete the on-device transcription model, adjust caption splitting, manage vocabulary, and edit filler words. Download status distinguishes transfer progress from verification; deleting a model means it must be downloaded again before it can be used.

Speaker detection

The same tab includes speaker-model management, automatic speaker detection for future transcriptions, and whether to remember speaker voices. See Speaker detection for model requirements and how to review identities.

Conversion and audio settings

Settings → Conversion controls compatibility conversion, video/audio quality, MP3-to-M4A conversion, and whether originals are deleted after remuxing. Review the original-file deletion setting before starting a batch.

Settings → Audio contains the silence-removal threshold and profanity word list. Filler words are managed in Transcription, not Audio.

Automation

Settings → Automation enables external CLI and MCP access. It is off by default. Install and connect the CLI with the displayed Homebrew command, then set up a supported assistant if needed. See the CLI guide and MCP guide.
