Avid Media Composer & Premiere Support

Sequence currently creates editable timeline exports for Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve. Both destinations use the modern FCPXML format.

Premiere and Avid Media Composer use different interchange formats. A third-party conversion route is available for Premiere, but Sequence does not provide a native Premiere or AAF exporter.

Adobe Premiere

Premiere cannot directly import the modern .fcpxml file that Sequence exports. Adobe’s documented workflow is to convert FCPXML into the older Final Cut Pro XML format that Premiere recognizes.

Convert and import the timeline

1. In Sequence, open the variant or programme you want to transfer and choose the DaVinci Resolve export destination. Save the .fcpxmld bundle.
2. In Finder, use Show Package Contents to locate Info.fcpxml. Keep the complete bundle, including its generated media.
3. Convert the FCPXML with XtoCC, the conversion tool recommended in Adobe's FCPXML import guide.
4. In Premiere, choose File → Import, select the converted legacy .xml, and complete the import prompts.
5. Check the entire imported sequence: edit points, media links, audio, frame rate, dimensions, markers, titles, Multi-Cam angles, and layer placement.

This is a third-party interchange route, not a native Sequence-to-Premiere project translation. Adobe notes that complex effects, transitions, and third-party plug-ins may not transfer correctly. Do not assume conversion will preserve every Multi-Cam, nested-asset, or layout detail. Test a representative export before relying on the route for a production handoff.

If media is offline

An .fcpxmld bundle contains XML and generated media, but does not guarantee a copy of every original source. Transfer the required originals, placed assets, prepared audio, and complete export bundle. Use Premiere's relink workflow if their paths have changed.

Avid Media Composer

Avid Media Composer does not import Sequence's modern FCPXML as an editable timeline. An AAF-based conform is a separate workflow.

Avid's documented dailies workflow uses an AAF with compatible MXF OP-Atom media. Importing the AAF into a bin creates master clips linked to that media.

Sequence does not write AAF or create an Avid MediaFiles/MXF package. Renaming an .fcpxml file or converting it for Premiere does not create a valid Avid handoff.

For now, use one of these routes:

• Export finished media when the edit does not need to remain editable in Media Composer.
• Export FCPXML to DaVinci Resolve, rebuild and verify the timeline there, then use a Resolve-to-Avid workflow appropriate to your facility. Treat this as a separate conform and test it before relying on it for production.
• Continue in Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve, which Sequence supports directly.

Why the formats differ

Final Cut Pro and Resolve receive modern FCPXML. Premiere needs a conversion to legacy Final Cut Pro XML, while Avid requires a different conform workflow. Changing the file extension cannot translate between those formats.

Sharing with another Sequence editor

Use a Sequence Package to preserve Sequence's own editing state, including Multi-Cam and layers and reusable assets. A package imports into Sequence; it is not an AAF, Premiere project, or substitute for an editor-specific conform.
