Organize Projects with Catalogs and Variants

Catalogs

Catalogs are used to group projects in the library. You can create a catalog from the catalog picker or while moving a project, then use it as a focused workspace for a client, show, channel, or batch of related media.

To move projects, right click a project in the library and choose Move to Catalog (shortcuts are available), then select an existing catalog or create a new one. Sequence updates the catalog assignment without changing the project media or transcript.

Unassigned

Unassigned is the built-in place for projects that do not belong to a custom catalog. If you delete a catalog that contains projects, those projects are moved to Unassigned rather than deleted. You can rename and delete catalogs you create, but the system Unassigned catalog remains available.

Variants

Project variants let you work on alternative versions from the same source media. A variant appears as a tab under the project and can have its own transcript edits, markers, playback position, normalized audio, silent moments, external audio, filler settings, profanity settings, and export choices.

When you create a variant, Sequence lets you create a fresh version or duplicate an existing one. Duplicating can copy the transcript from the source variant, which is useful when you want to try a different edit without losing the work you already did.

Switching between variants

Sequence remembers playback state as you switch between tabs, so you can compare versions without constantly finding your place again. The library selection stays tied to the project while the active tab controls the variant you are editing.

History

Use the History pane to see what you’ve actioned for each variant. Import, remux, normalization, transcription, profanity cleanup, filler cleanup, and other edit operations are tracked so you can understand how a version got to its current state.
